Join us for a screening of Cosmic Coda, Tuesday October 27th

Cosmic Coda is a 2025 documentary film directed, written, and produced by Mary Jane Doherty. The film spans 39 years, connecting footage shot in 1985 at MIT with a follow-up three decades later. It tracks Nobel laureate Dr. Rainer “Rai” Weiss and a team of astrophysicists building the gravitational-wave antennas that eventually led to the historic detection of gravitational waves by LIGO, the scientific research group that Prof. Cominsky has been collaborating with for almost 20 years. Instead of just technical deep-dives, the film explores the human, day-to-day lives of scientists tackling existential questions.

What do scientists eat for breakfast as they’re making ground breaking research happen? Maybe it’s what you and I are eating today? Come and see what it looked like in 1985 when Dr. Rai Weiss was doing this important work.
