Once Barbara Beatie learned to read, words became a lifelong passion. Reading
sparked a love of writing. Barbara especially enjoyed working on various school
newspapers, heading up writing clubs, endlessly writing poetry, crafting radio
spots and scripts, copyediting, and delving into research projects. Barbara has
deep fondness for all libraries and the librarians who encouraged and nurtured
this love of words.
Barbara studied philosophy at University of California Santa Cruz, and then
earned her paralegal certificate at DeAnza College. Barbara graduated with a Juris
Doctor from Empire College School of Law. Advocacy work and outreach led to
pursuing education and training courses at Santa Rosa Junior College, with the
goal of teaching. As a Peer Assisted Learning Specialist at SRJC, Barbara found
her new path. She matriculated to Sonoma State University where she earned her
M.A. in English Literature with Distinction. At SSU, she was a Teaching Assistant
in the Math Department, a Writing Tutor and Lead Tutor at the Writing Center,
and a Graduate Teaching Assistant for English 100A/100B. She is a lecturer in the
SSU English Department where she works to share her love of words with first
year students.
During the summers, Barbara works in outdoor theatre for Transcendence
Theatre Company as the founding Company Dresser. The fast pace of live theatre
where words on a page transform into magic, the dedication and commitment of
the actors, and the team spirit that is the heart of Transcendence fill her soul.
Barbara loves tent camping, kayaking, and swimming. A perfect day is being in
Nature, reading in a hammock, composing poetry on a walk, jumping in the
water, sketching trees and flowers, delighting in encounters with animal friends,
kayaking at sunset, and of course, watching the stars, their myths and legends
sparking wonder and awe.
Barbara is thrilled to be a part of the EdEon Team!
