Credit:NASA 3UCubedCubeSat Launches Aboard SpaceX Falcon 9
December 19, 2025With the launch of our CubeSat, 3UCubed, to study how solar wind interacts with Earth’s upper atmosphere, we’ve been fortunate enough to engage with a few members of the press. Here are some articles published about our successful launch.
Under the leadership of Dr. Laura Peticolas, director of EdEon STEM Learning, more than 70 undergraduates contributed over five years to the spacecraft’s development, gaining hands-on experience rarely found at teaching-focused institutions. Launched aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 during the Transporter-15 rideshare mission, 3UCubed deployed into orbit approximately an hour after liftoff, marking a major milestone for the student teams who overcame technical challenges, pandemic disruptions, and multiple launch delays to bring the mission to life. As the CubeSat begins transmitting data, it will support improved space-weather forecasting and highlight the powerful impact of authentic research experiences on student learning, inspiration, and STEM career pathways.
